Dan Roberts

Dr. Dan Roberts is Chairman of the Board for The Camp-aign for American Kids. He served as an officer in the U. S. Army, which included a tour in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He is also a Presbyterian Minister and graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. In August l986, Dan was invited to serve as Guest Chaplain of the United States Senate. Dr. Roberts is currently a professor of History at the University of Richmond and President of Broadcast Partners, LLC, where he produces and hosts A Moment in Time, a daily, international radio history broadcast.

In a report released July 2007, Dr. Ruby Takanishi, President of the Foundation for Child Development, remarked, “Americans must find better ways to balance family and social responsibility for future generations. Our national security depends upon it.”

As a university professor, I can relate to Dr. Takanishi’s concerns. In the spring of 2000, The Wall Street Journal conducted a survey of senior class students at the 55 best universities in the United States.  The findings revealed that a large percentage could score no higher than a D- on a high school history test.  It also turned out that 78% of these young scholars knew the identity of Beavis and Butthead, but only 33% knew that George Washington was at Yorktown.

That’s why, fourteen years ago, I decided to do something about the growing epidemic of ignorance about the past by creating the syndicated radio show, A Moment in Time, a brief, exciting and compelling journey into the past. And though the program now enjoys an audience of over two million listeners daily, the alarming increase in destructive and violent behavior among today’s youth has made it imminently clear that something more needs to be done.

That is why I am so pleased to be part of The Camp-aign for American Kids. The mission of The Camp-aign is to infuse younger generations, while they are still impressionable, with the key survival values they will need to stay safe, and keep one another safe!

On February 10, 2007, Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel stated, “The greatest force for change in the world is the next generation. For America and the world to continue to improve the human condition, it will require the trust and confidence of the world’s next generation.’

Hagel went on to say, “If we fail, our children and grandchildren will inherit a very dangerous world.’

I served in Vietnam because I believe in the values of our American way of life. The Camp-aign for American Kids is concerned with producing entire generations of children infused with those same values.

Please join me in supporting The Camp-aign for American Kids. This may just be our best hope for shaping the history of our own future. (To continue, click here.)
